Applications for new community monument fund open
Applications are being invited by Wicklow County Council for funds to help the conservation of local monuments.
The Community Monuments Fund will invest €900,000 nationally in our valuable archaeological heritage to help the owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future for the benefit of local communities and the visiting public.
It aims to fund the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of local monuments and archaeological sites.
It will have a number of funding streams aimed at:
Enabling conservation works for monuments deemed to be significant and in need of urgent support.
Encouraging access to monuments and improve their presentation.
To build resilience in monuments to enable them to withstand the effects of climate change.
Grants for enhancement of access infrastructure (including COVID protection) and interpretation at archaeological monuments.
Applications in County Wicklow will be co-ordinated on behalf of the Department by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council.
Applications are now closed.
Application forms and full details of the fund are available at www.wicklow.ie in the news section. For more information on eligible monuments visit www.archaeology.ie. All queries may be directed to Deirdre Burns, Heritage Officer, Wicklow County Council via dburns@wicklowcoco.ie.
