One-way system trial now underway on Main Street

The long awaited one-way system trial for Main Street in Wicklow Town has begun since Saturday November 13th.

The system begins at Morton’s Lane (Hopkin’s Hill) and goes as far as Market Square, with cars coming down the hill no longer meeting oncoming traffic from the right. You will be able to join into the northbound traffic heading towards Fitzwilliam Square, or turn right towards Market Square.

Traffic coming northbound from Dunbur Road now need to use the South Quay or Kilmantan Hill to access the town.

If you are heading southbound towards the Dunbur Road, you will be able to head through the town and take a right at the fork in the road at The Mall. You can still take the left fork in the road for a left-turn only down Salthill Lane which brings you onto South Quay.

The plan is being put in place by Wicklow Municipal District in an attempt to remove traffic congestion from the town and allow for more inviting retail shopping as well as outdoor dining.

A similar one-way system was tested in the town over the Christmas period which was met with positive feedback and support.

Signage and road markings has been put in place to inform people of the different layout.
