The Hobbyist's Guide to Wicklow Town

There’s always something to do in Wicklow Town, you just need to know where to find it.

If you take a stroll down the lakes, it’s not unusual to hear the plop of plastic oars slapping on the hurried waters of the River Vartry as rowers, young and old, participate in one of Wicklow Town’s oldest and most famous past times.

Swing back into the bustle of the town and take a seat in Phil Healy’s pub and you might catch a few people playfully bickering over chess boards, or cross the road to The Bridge Tavern and hear the Toastmasters taking turns to give animated and riveting speeches to standing applause.

If you haven’t heard the pop of a ball as it rockets through the air followed by the rapturous cheers of a crowd, then have you really been to Wicklow Town?

Wherever your hobbies lie, you’re sure to find a group of like-minded individuals who share in your passions, and this is especially true of our town.

If you have a love for arts and crafts, then you’ll easily find your home at Crazy Glazing, nestled cosily on Fitzwilliam Place, just across the road from the obelisk on Fitzwilliam Square. And if arts and Warcraft is more your style, The War Room just across from Crazy Glazing hold regular events for anyone interested in the mystical world of tabletop gaming.

Are you a skater or a BMXer? The Murrough Skate Park is the ideal location for those who love to shred, and the adjoining Murrough Playground is also ideal for those who are a little too young to be shredding just yet.

Do you have a love for traditional Irish music? Whether you want to join in or would rather sit back and take in the sounds, Ernie’s Bar on Market Square is the place for you.

The Coral Leisure Centre is a veritable haven for swimmers and fitness enthusiasts, and the town’s yoga studios feed people’s need for deep wellness and spirituality, while Kenpo Karate is perfect for those interested in the martial arts and self-defence.

Wicklow’s Gymnastics Club is perfect for beginner gymnasts, and the Inbhear Dee Athletics Club is for the budding athletes.

And we’re not even scratching the surface here.
