Why it helps to know your local clubs

Whether you’re new to Wicklow Town and looking to find some kindred spirits, or you’ve been here for ages – your local clubs are ready to help you connect with people who enjoy the same activities as you do.

While Covid-19 may have put a spanner in the works with regards to our collective social lives, that doesn’t mean we can’t plan for the future. We’re moving forward steadily, with a hiccup here and there, towards the re-opening of sports venues and possibly music venues in 2021, which means that smaller towns and villages will hopefully be able to enjoy their own local clubs once again.

So whether it’s sports, music, acting, board games, dancing, or virtually anything - let’s talk about some of the reasons you may want to reach out to a local club when we’ve finally put a lid on Covid-19.

For socialising

First and foremost, a club is about connecting with people who share that same interests as you. You can bounce ideas, experiences, and stories off each other, and if your club is involved in team activities – you can learn a lot about teamwork and trust-building, which are life skills that can come in handy for your career.

For learning something new

Very often, clubs are welcoming to all-comers, which means you don’t have to have any prior experience in the club’s chosen activity. This means you can try your hand at whatever you like while benefitting from the knowledge of those who have been involved for much longer.

 For bettering the community

Many local clubs are also deeply involved in their communities, meaning that they support and often hold fundraisers for local causes such as the provision of medical facilities or the funding of cleaning initiatives.
