Wicklow Shortlisted For National Award

Wicklow County Council has been shortlisted in the 19th  annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2022 for six projects.

The 2022 Excellence in Local Government Awards, sponsored by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, showcase best practice in local government and recognise the skills, hard work, innovation and enthusiasm within local government that can often go unrecognised.

The six projects shortlisted are:

  • Wicklow County Council Solar Car Park in Climate Change

  • Healthy Blessington in Health & Wellbeing

  • Celebrating Wicklow’s Wonder Women in Heritage and Built Environment

  • Arklow Courthouse & Enterprise Hub in Initiative through the Municipal Districts

  • Social Housing Design & Build in Local Authority Innovation

  • Wicklow Passport in Supporting Tourism

Commenting on the achievement, the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Tommy Annesley, said: “I am delighted that Wicklow County Council has been shortlisted for these six projects. I would like to congratulate all involved, both in the local authority and the wider community. It is a great achievement to be recognised nationally in these awards and is recognition of the fact that so many people in the local authority are delivering great projects in our community.”

Deputy Chief Executive Michael Nicholson stated:  “It is a wonderful achievement for Wicklow to be shortlisted for six awards. Wicklow County Council continues to strive towards best practice in the projects it undertakes and these awards recognise the importance of the work and the commitment by our staff and everyone involved in delivering excellence in local economic, social and recreational development across our County.”

The awards ceremony will take place later this year.
