Wicklow Family Club: Supporting Families and Building Community in Wicklow Town

What began as one mother’s journey to overcome loneliness has grown into a vibrant community space for families in Wicklow Town.

Wicklow Family Club, based in the De La Salle Pastoral Centre, was founded by a local mother who once found herself feeling isolated as a young, single parent. Through social prescribing she became involved with the Ideas Academy, which helped spark the idea of creating a welcoming space where families could meet, connect and support one another. With the encouragement of her husband and their three children, Wicklow Family Club was created.

This April marks four years since the club first opened its doors, and in that time it has become an important weekly gathering for many local families. Every Friday morning from 10am to 12pm, parents, carers, babies and young children come together to play, chat and enjoy a relaxed and supportive environment.

While playtime is at the heart of the club, Wicklow Family Club has grown to offer much more. Over the years it has supported families through a range of initiatives and activities including Hygiene Hub donations for families in need, workshops and family activities, Healthy Food Made Easy sessions, baby weaning support, music and sensory play, dance classes for parents and children, and wellbeing mornings for parents. There are always snacks, friendly faces and a welcoming atmosphere where everyone is made to feel included.

The aim of Wicklow Family Club has always been simple — to create a positive, supportive community where no family feels isolated and everyone feels welcome.

However, running the club costs approximately €7,500 each year, and the organisers are currently seeking support from local businesses to help ensure the club can continue providing this valuable space for families.

Wicklow Family Club is now inviting local businesses to partner with them in supporting the community while also gaining positive local visibility.

Businesses can get involved in a number of ways, including:

Sponsoring a Friday morning activity or craft
Providing small treats, samples or goodies for families
Supporting special events such as seasonal celebrations
Helping grow a positive, family-focused community in Wicklow

It’s a meaningful opportunity for businesses to show their support for local families while also connecting with parents and carers in the area.
