Dominican celebrates 150 years in Wicklow Town this June
The 20th of June 2020 will mark the 150th year since the first Dominican nuns arrived in Wicklow Town and established the now famous Dominican College and National School on the corporation lands.
The sisters were invited to take up residence in the Bayview House in 1869 by Rev. Patrick O’ Doherty, and they eventually took up residence there in 1870 before establishing their first national school just 4 days later.
The sisters were responsible for the opening of many schools in Wicklow Town since their arrival.
