Wicklow Town Heritage Trail – A key attraction for locals and visitors to Wicklow Town for Easter Weekend
The Annual weekly guided walk of the new Wicklow Town Heritage Trail commences on Easter Saturday, and will be a key attraction for tourists visiting the town for Easter Weekend and provides a great insight into the rich heritage of the town.
The now well- established Heritage Trail last year attracted an increased number of tourists and a significant interest from newcomers to the area anxious to immerse themselves fully in their understanding of their local heritage & history.
Locals, Visitors and Tourists are all welcome to take part in what is a very informative trail detailing the rich history of Wicklow Town.
This trail will commence from outside the Tourist office in Fitzwilliam Square at 11am and will take approximately 2 hours to complete, allowing participants to spend some time at each location.
These guided trails will continue each Saturday morning from Easter Saturday until 27th September
The walk this week will focus mainly on the history and heritage around the town centre including:
· The story of Robert Halpin who laid the first trans- Atlantic cable.
· The history of the Church of Ireland in Church Hill.
· The history of the 12th century Franciscan Abbey.
· The story of the construction and history of St Patricks Church.
· The Halpin Monument on Market Square.
On each storyboard, there is a QR code which enables participants to watch a video on their phone, telling them the story of each key location. The actors featured on the videos are members of the local dramatic society.
