Wicklow Town Team Welcomes New Volunteers Following Successful Open Day

Tuesday 6 May, 2025 – Wicklow Town Team is celebrating a highly successful Open Day held last Saturday, 3 May, at the Assembly Hall in Wicklow Town.

The event, aimed at providing information about the Town Team's work and recruiting new members, saw a fantastic turnout with over 50 people from the local community signing up to get involved.

Many of the new recruits expressed interest in joining the various working groups that drive the Town Team's initiatives. These groups focus on key areas such as Public Realm & Heritage, Arts & Culture, Tourism & Hospitality, Website & Social Media, Environment / Sustainable Energy, and the East Coast Greenway.

The Wicklow Town Team is a co-ordinating body of local volunteers representing active stakeholders, community groups, the voluntary sector, and business organisations. They work collaboratively with the local Municipal Council with the shared mission of making Wicklow Town a better place to Live, Work, Shop, and Play. To date, the team has successfully secured over €1 million in funding for projects that have significantly enhanced the town.

Notable achievements of the Wicklow Town Team include the Wicklow Connectivity Project (encompassing the Town Murals, Mini Mural & Golly Trail), the popular Heritage Trail, the backlighting of historic and civic buildings, and the development of the Wicklow Town Website. Current exciting projects underway include the East Coast Greenway, a Pump Bike Track on the Murrough, a new Pilgrim Walk to Glendalough, and plans to enhance the visual appeal and accessibility of the Black Castle area.

These impactful projects are made possible through the dedication of Wicklow Town Team members who work closely with the local Municipal Council and Wicklow County Council to secure funding for initiatives focused on improving the town's environment, promoting tourism, the arts, sporting/recreational development, community development, and climate action and sustainable energy.

The Wicklow Town Team is actively seeking new volunteer members for their working groups and encourages anyone with a passion for their community to get involved.

"We were absolutely delighted with the response to our Open Day," said Pascal Burke, Chair of the Wicklow Town Team

“To have over 50 people sign up to contribute their time and skills is truly inspiring. It clearly demonstrates the strong community spirit that exists in Wicklow Town and the desire of people to actively shape its future. We are excited to welcome these new members and look forward to the fresh perspectives and energy they will bring to our working groups.”

A meeting is scheduled for the week commencing 19th May with the time to be confirmed with all those who expressed interest, along with current steering group members. The team will finalise the formation of the new working groups later this month.
