Local History Talk at Wicklow Town Library
Step back in time and rediscover the magic of cinema-going in Wicklow.
Tuesday, 24 March @ 7:00pm
Wicklow Town Library
Local historian Jim Scannell will present “Going to the Pictures in the 1950s and 1960s,” a nostalgic look at the golden age of cinema in Wicklow. During these decades, going to the pictures was a major social occasion, with the Abbey Cinema and the Rialto Cinema—both opened in 1942—at the heart of the town’s entertainment life.
Jim’s talk will explore how cinema developed in Wicklow during the 1950s and 1960s, recalling the films people loved, the stars who lit up the screen, and the unique experience of going to the pictures in those years.
Admission is free, but spaces are limited.
