🚧 Rockey Road Improvement Scheme Officially Opened
Tánaiste Simon Harris officially opened the Rockey Road Improvement Scheme earlier today. This project will enhance pedestrian facilities and improve road safety on the Rockey Road in Wicklow Town.
A significant investment of €1.3 million has been allocated, funded by the Department of Transport, highlighting the importance of this initiative. The construction was completed in the third quarter of 2025, and the Rockey Road reopened to the public on 15th October 2025.
Key features of the project include:
• Realigning the existing road to achieve a constant width of 5.5 meters
• Enhancing safety for vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists
• Installing 420 meters of new footpath stretching from the Carrig Beag Housing Development to the M11
• Adding 17 new public lights, one zebra crossing, two speed ramps and two speed driver feedback signs
This project aims to significantly improve road conditions and provide an alternative route that caters to residential developments along the Wicklow Town Outer Relief Road. This will help alleviate traffic congestion on main routes leading into and out of Wicklow Town and Rathnew.
