Round Ireland Yacht Race 2026 Photography Competition

Wicklow Town is proud to welcome the 2026 Round Ireland Yacht Race. Hosted biennially by Wicklow Sailing Club since 1980, it is one of the longest and most prestigious offshore races on the international sailing calendar. An estimated 60 yachts are expected to cross the start line at 2pm on 20th June 2026 in Wicklow Harbour.

To celebrate this iconic event, Wicklow Town Team is delighted to launch the inaugural Round Ireland Photography Competition. The competition aims to capture the excitement of the race and showcase the beauty, character and vibrancy of Wicklow Town for residents and visitors alike.

The competition is generously sponsored by Wicklow Municipal District, whose support has made this initiative possible. Top prizes of €250 euro for the best Round Ireland photograph, and the best Around the Town photograph and runner up prizes for the best images in either category will be awarded.

Terms and Conditions

· All images must be taken between 18th and 28th June 2026 and should capture the excitement of the Round Ireland Yacht Race and or activities and sights around Wicklow Town.

· A top prize of €250 will be on offer for the best Round Ireland Image and a top prize of €250 will be on offer for the best Around the Town image. Runner up prizes will be on offer for the best images in either category.

· The competition is open to amateur photographers i.e. people whose main income is not earned through photography.

· Entrants can submit one image only

· Each entry must be the original work of the entrant.

· The entries will be judged by a panel of judges, the decision of the judges will be final.

· Images should not contain any visible watermarks

· Initial digital submissions should be jpegs less than 5MB in file size. If shortlisted, entrants will then be asked for a higher resolution of their entry at a later date.

· Electronic files sent as attachments cannot be returned

· If your image contains identifiable vulnerable persons or persons under 18, you must have guardian or parental consent before submitting your entry.

· All images used will be credited to the photographer

· An exhibition of shortlisted entries will be held at Wicklow Library (dates to be confirmed).

· The finalists grant Wicklow Town Team and the sponsors Wicklow County Council, the right to use the images in electronic format or in print for the purpose of promoting this competition with suitable caption and credit to the photographer.

About Wicklow Town Team.

Wicklow Town Team was established to make Wicklow town a better place to live, work, shop and play. The Town Team works closely with Wicklow County Council and Wicklow Municipal District in order to achieve its objectives. The Town Team consists of dedicated volunteers and 2 elected members, supported by Wicklow County Council officials. The Town Team has secured over €1 million euro in funding, in recent years, for projects focused on improving our town environment, promotion of tourism, the arts, sporting and recreational development, community development, climate action and sustainable energy.
