Ireland’s hard-fought victory over Scotland during the Guiness Six Nations at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday has been met with mixed reactions from the rugby world, but the one thing that everyone is certain of is the high level of physicality involved.

Wicklow’s own Josh Van Der Flier weighed-in on their victory at the weekend, claiming that it was one of “the most physical games I’ve played”, and congratulated his team for their incredible effort.

“I was delighted to get the win,” said coach Andy Farrell at the post-match press conference. “I thought we thoroughly deserved the win, although I thought Scotland were great. It was a good Test match. It was a tough old Test match, first up. It was very attritional.

“I thought the Scottish forwards were excellent and defensively they were hitting hard. We know what a threat they can be with ball in hand. We had to fight and dig deep plenty of times, certainly in the first half.

“I think our performance, you can sum it up in the last five minutes really. We asked the lads all week to make sure they stand for something and I think you could easily see the true grit. Especially from some of those tight five boys.

“We had to dig deep. We had a couple of injuries nice and early, that makes it a little bit tricky as far as your subs are concerned. Some of them were out there a lot longer than they probably have done in the past, but they were leading the way in those last five minutes. I thought it was outstanding.”

WicklowTown.ie would like to wish Josh and his team the very best of luck as Ireland face Wales in the next round of The Six Nations in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday the 8th of February.
